NFL free agency news: Redskins sign cornerback Aaron Colvin

Aaron Colvin has found a new home.

The cornerback was released earlier this week following his shoddy performance for the Texans in their loss to the Saints in Week 1 but has agreed to a deal with Washington, the Redskins announced Friday.

Colvin, a sixth-year veteran, allowed eight receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown in coverage on nine targets against New Orleans on Monday — according to NFL Research — as Drew Brees led New Orleans to a comeback victory.

“He’s a great player,” Colvin said of Brees (via the Houston Chronicle). “He did what he needed to do. We didn’t, especially myself. That’s what it is.”

Colvin signed a four-year, $34 million contract with Houston last offseason and earned $7.5 million in guaranteed money from the Texans this year before his release.

Now he’ll get a fresh start with a Washington team that lost to Philadelphia in a close game in its 2019 season opener.

The Redskins will take on the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on Sunday.
